German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ)
DKFZ aims to reduce cancer incidence and mortality through research into risk factors, disease mechanisms, diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
About the centre
DKFZ joined the International Alliance for Cancer Early Detection (ACED) in 2025. Its mission is to decrease new cancer cases and cancer deaths through transformative research, education of the next generation of leaders in cancer research and by translating advances into health system changes and innovative products for the benefit of society.
As the largest biomedical research institute in Germany, DKFZ’s research spans the entire translational continuum from discovering the fundamental causes of cancer to inventing ground-breaking preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic approaches and delivering innovative clinical trials and public outreach.
Prevention is a major strategic focus, with research ranging from the discovery of new modifiable risk factors and targetable mechanisms of tumourigenesis to early detection using innovative imaging techniques with translational potential.
Alongside this research expertise, DKFZ brings a rich repository of samples and data and a broad range of technology platforms to ACED’s research themes.
